Job Overview:

The Supervisor – Senior may work in any type of food location on client premises. This individual provides oversight at the direction of management on site to coordinate routine work activities of workers and/or service employees engaged in food operations or services at either larger complex facilities or locations in the areas of commercial, health care, schools, universities or other establishments. This individual will provide support to management in the daily oversight of key functions and employees during the normal course of business. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements. 

General Responsibilities:

  • Understands and follows all policies and procedures.
  • Assists in ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees.
  • Assists in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.
  • Responsible for the oversight of day-to-day activities of subordinates and assigns responsibility for specific work or functional activities as directed by on-site management.
  • Responsible for orientation and training of employees.
  • Performs day-to-day assignments in addition to oversight duties.
  • Works with customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service and problem resolution.
  • Promote the development of the foodservice team.
  • Attends all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
  • Complies with all Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.  
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Maintains key control of operations and responsible for activities to ensure opening, closing and daily procedures are completed.
  • Serves as a working lead supervisor coordinating activities of workers or service employees engaged in food operations or services at larger complex facilities of commercial, health care facility, school, campus or other establishments.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Experience/Knowledge:

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • 1or more years related work experience.

Skills/Aptitude:

  • Must be able to coordinate the routine responsibilities of staff and resources.
  • Presents self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.  
  • Ability to provide clear directions and respond accordingly to employees.
  • Ability to use a computer.

Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):

  • Generally in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.
  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Details

Nourish Events at the Columbus Zoo is looking for qualified a Catering Supervisor to oversee and execute events in a high volume/high profile Catering Venue. This position will work directly under the Catering Manager and Senior Catering Supervisor to ensure the following in relation to event service:  Establishes a safe work environment, venue set-up, employee uniform appearance, the execution of the event service, food quality and presentation, and the break down and reset of venues for future events.
The Catering Supervisor will need to be able to stand in for the Senior Catering Supervisor when needed and will be able to execute and manage all aspects of the business as it relates to the Front of the House. The Catering Supervisor will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Schedules can and will change if there are last minute events booked and will require shifts up to and exceeding 12 hours when business dictates. Selected candidates will be required to work indoor and outdoor venues on Zoo Grounds. This individual will provide support to management in the daily oversight of key functions and employees during the normal course of business. General Responsibilities:
  • Understands and follows all Sodexo, Columbus Zoo and Nourish Events unit policies and procedures.
  • Implements and ensures all company safety and risk management policies and procedures are followed.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries as per Columbus Zoo and Sodexo policies.
  • Facilitates a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees.
  • Serves as a working Supervisor, coordinating activities of Leads and team members engaged in food operations monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for increased service or productivity.
  • Certifies that all event leads have event timelines and checklists; conducts pre-event team huddles and safety moments at the beginning of all scheduled shifts.
  • Ensures high quality service and presentation are met by supervising team members during all aspects of the catered event.
  • Meets with clients in order to confirm event specific details and special requests while striving to exceed client’s expectations.
  • Analyze operational issues and concerns such as wastage, and establishes procedures to alleviate these problems.
  • Supervises and promotes employees growth, efficiency, morale, and teamwork.
  • Assists in control of all labor schedules in accordance with budgeted cost.
  • Validate and communicate a timeline and layout/ diagram of catering events including details of the set-up, execution, and tear down for event.
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure premium service and standards.
  • Verify equipment and supply requirements, based on the event Banquet Event Order (BEO) form and ensure event leads are inventorying their equipment and product requirements at the beginning of each event.
  • Promotes and fosters a communication between Catering, Culinary and Logistics’ team members.
  • Performs day-to-day assignments in addition to oversight duties.
  • Works with guests to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service and problem resolution.
  • Promote the development of the foodservice team.

  • Minimum age is 18 years or older
  • 1 or more years related work experience.
